As pediatric dental specialists, we will always aim to minimize the exposure of our patients to radiation and we are thankful that we can do just that with digital X-rays. Digital X-rays significantly reduce exposure to radiation while providing the best available imaging to clearly evaluate the dental structures of your child’s developing mouth and jaw.
Dentists use X-rays to detect much more than just cavities. Here at Pediatric Dental Specialists of Western Colorado we routinely use digital dental X-rays to look for erupting teeth, evaluate oral trauma, identify possible needs for orthodontic treatments in the future and help avoid them if possible. In pediatric dentistry we are often able to effectively find and treat dental problems early avoiding often costly complications.
It is recommended that dental X-rays are done every six months for children at high risk of dental caries, otherwise every 1-3 years is acceptable according to The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
We strive to use the safest and most effective procedures and techniques in the dental industry. Your child’s dental health and overall wellbeing is of utmost importance to us and prior to any tests, we will always discuss the benefits and risks involved. Together we will partner with you to decide what tests and treatments are best for your child.
